Running Tales - so much more than just a podcast
Plus our usual round-up including how to combat 'maranoia' ahead of the London Marathon and our chat with Northampton Road Runner's Pete Moor
A quick reminder this week about our Chat offering on this Substack site.
Our podcasts try to create a chatty atmosphere, but they’re only ever one person at a time - and we’d like to hear from more of you about your running, what you think of our articles and, if the mood hits you that way, life in general.
The ‘Running Tales: After all is said and run’ subscriber chat is a conversation space in the Substack app set up exclusively for subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout.
Also on Running Tales:
We’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates and you can jump into the discussion.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android.
Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications to avoid missing the conversation as it happens.
We look forward to seeing - and hearing from you - there.
Cool runnings,
Craig & Michelle
This week on…
The podcast:
This week on the Running Tales Podcast we spoke to Northampton Road Runner, Pete Moor.
A stalwart of the Northamptonshire running scene, Pete is a regular at events up and down the county - as well as in neighbouring Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.
A real all-rounder, he has taken on races from 5k to ultras and has 15 marathons to his name.
But it's not just local events that attract Pete, who combines his love of travelling with running.
He's already completed the Boston, Chicago and London Marathons, and has Berlin, Tokyo and New York in his sights to reach the six marathon majors mark.
Pete has also run marathons throughout Europe, conquered a gruelling ultra in the Faros Islands - twice, taken part in Endure 24 and run a relay race dressed as a bear!
Substack:
With marathon season well and truly upon us - make sure you’re tapering now London runners! - we took a look at how to beat the nerves that can beset those setting out to conquer the 26.2 mile distance.
Yes, if marathon season is upon us then so are, in this crazy world of everything and everyone being a portmanteau, the joys of ‘maranoia’.
Officially - apparently - defined as the ‘mental anxiety found in marathon runners, characterised by the irrational belief that last-minute disaster is imminent,’ maranoia is the nagging feeling the slight twinge in your glute is Piriformis Syndrome poised to strike you down the second your big race starts.
Our article looks at how to relax and trust in your training ahead of the big event.
We also featured an article explaining why our own Craig Lewis is preparing to take on the 16:15 Charity Run in Northampton next month.
The event aims to raise money to help Project 16:15, which serves rough sleepers in the town.
The life expectancy for rough sleepers is just 45 for men and 43 for women.
While on our streets they have to deal with everything from addiction to abuse on a daily basis.
They are spat at, raped, verbally abused, ignored and dismissed. They are stripped of the dignity they inherently deserve - and the chances in life which so many of us take for granted.
The 16:15 Charity Run will take place between 8am and 2pm on Saturday, May 20 at Northampton’s Racecourse.
Jointly organised by Step Forward With Lewis, Northampton rough sleeper charity Project 16:15 and Running Tales, it will last for six hours but participants can run for as far or as little as they like.
The Step Forward With Lewis Running Club:
As you may know, Running Tales is part of Michelle’s fitness, running and personal training business, Step Forward With Lewis.
Step Forward With Lewis was born as a running club, and its early years were spent as a voluntary-run, free club putting on Fartlek and hill sessions, as well as chatty runs.
Despite its development as a fully fledged business offering everything from Boxercise to balance classes, the running element remains hugely important at SFWL.
Hence, the launch of the official Step Forward With Lewis Running Club.
Membership will offer access to all the club sessions, as well as a host of other benefits - including one month’s paid subscription to this Running Tales Substack for free - for just £10.
More details can be found on the Step Forward With Lewis website.
Thanks as ever for reading and listening to Running Tales. We couldn’t do this without your support - please back us to keep going by…
