Running for rough sleepers - Introducing the 16:15 Charity Run
We are putting on a fun run at Northampton's Racecourse on Saturday, May 20 to raise money for rough sleeper charity, Project 16:15
No t-shirts. No medals. Just the joyous feeling of going for a run and helping raise money to help those less fortunate than you.
Since December, we’ve been working to get permission from our local council for a fun run in Northampton to raise money to help rough sleepers.
And last week, we got it!
Jointly organised through Michelle’s Step Forward With Lewis fitness business and Northampton rough sleeper charity Project 16:15, the 16:15 Charity Run will take place at Northampton Racecourse on Saturday, May 20 between 8am and 2pm.
Michelle and I wanted to do something to help remember George, and to provide help for other rough sleepers in Northampton.
So we spoke Project 16:15's Stan Robertson with the idea of holding a run at the town's Racecourse.
The aim is that it will last six hours, with people running for as little or as much of that time as they want.
While the event doesn't provide any of the 'bling' races usually come with, it has the advantage of being free to enter.
The idea is people can fundraise, or give a donation, to take part with any money raised going to Project 16:15.
We are currently working on JustGiving pages that will be directly linked to the charity’s own page, but if people want to set up their own pages then that would also be amazing.
We’ve also spoken to run directors at the Northampton parkrun, who have given the run their full backing.
Timings for the 16:15 Charity Run will overlap with parkrun on May 20, but the plan is that people taking part can incorporate their regular parkrun into the fun run event.
There will be an aid station with food and drinks provided by Project 16:15.
The 16:15 Charity Run will not be a race, and there will be no winner. Instead, it will be a chance to run with friends, chat and think about those who are less fortunate than we are.
Keep an eye out on Facebook and here for more information.
Hope to see you all there on May 20,
Craig

The podcast:
This week on the Running Tales Podcast we spoke to Allyson Kent about her new found love of running.
After being diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer, she turned to walking to boost her physical and mental health, eventually completing the marathon distance 52 times in 52 weeks in 2021.
Gripped by the fitness bug, Allyson has since discovered Beverley Westwood parkrun - and with it a sudden and unexpected love of running.
We spoke to Allyson about completing the 5km distance for the first time, her role as an ambassador at 5k Your Way, and what is coming next on her fledgling running journey.
