'Cool runnings,' a survey for you and our latest content
Catch-up with this week's podcast featuring Northampton Saints Wheelchair Rugby athletes Steve Montgomery and Gerry McCrory
It’s CHRISTMAS! - Well, pretty much!
At Running Tales, we generally don't like to drop the festive 'C' bomb too early, but considering it’s colder outside than an Eskimo’s nose it seems about a good time to get the festive spirit flowing.
But with the seasonal greetings, the watchings of Muppets Christmas Carol and Home Alone for the 2,000th time, and the Christmas parties - not to mention that cold - comes the temptation to skip your running regime.
The first thing to say is that’s not something you should be giving yourself a hard time about - even the best need a break!
However, if you want to keep on running, but are being held back by the dark, cold and the pull of the mince pies then we’re here to say ‘keep going, you can do it!’
Christmas and winter aren’t an excuse to forget everything you've worked so hard for over the year.
Here’s a picture of me from Twitter looking miserable about the prospect but still making it out, Christmas hat and all!
And if that’s not encouragement enough - 🤔 - perhaps check out the short videos on our YouTube channel for bite-sized inspiration.
Tell us what you think
Michelle and I also wanted to take the opportunity to find out a little bit more about what you think of what we do at Running Tales?
Are we the perfect podcast partner? Is our substack scintillating? Is the pod long and boring, or inspiring? Is £5/month for our articles value for money?

This week’s content
If you haven’t had a chance to catch-up with this week’s podcast, we can highly recommend listening to our chat with wheelchair athletes Steve Montgomery and Gerry McCrory.
Steve has come a long way since taking up wheelchair racing just over a year ago.
Despite being in his 50s, he has clocked a sub-18 minute parkrun and competed alongside the elite athletes at this year's London Marathon.
But Steve's first sporting love is wheelchair rugby. He is a member of Northampton Saints Wheelchair Rugby team, which won this year’s WR5s Premiership and came second in the first ever Poland Cup - the WR5 version of football’s European Cup.
The side's captain is Gerry McCrory, an amputee who can walk normally using a prosthetic leg but uses a wheelchair to play rugby.
Running Tales spoke to Steve and Gerry about being 'different ability' rather than disabled athletes, wheelchair sport and the London Marathon…
You can also catch up with our latest long-form article on this platform, in which we tell the story of wheelchair racer Claudia Burrough.
Claudia is the holder of six ultra marathon world records, pushed her way round the Comrades Marathon and has finished London, Berlin and New York Marathons.
You can read Claudia’s incredible story here:
That’s all for today. Be sure to fill in our survey and let us know what you think of everything we are doing!
Thanks and enjoy your ‘cool runnings’!
Craig
